22ft. Century Raven
Customer Erik Olson says he was attracted to Brightwork Boat Works because of their ´attention to detail´ and ´go getter attitude.´
Erik grew up in the Madison area with memories of cruising in his father´s 22ft. Century Raven - ´Nevermore´ - the sun glistening on the warm mahogany finish. When he was six, his father passed away and the boat was winterized, placed in storage and eventually sold. The boat was gone, but the memories lived on.
On a recent visit to Madison. Erik decided to try and track down the boat. It was a warm, blustery August day when he ventured over to the yacht club where he played 29 years ago as a child. The manager of the club led him to a garage where he was stunned to see his father´s boat after all these years.
´It was like stepping back in time,´ Erik said. ´I thought I´d seen a ghost.´ After some negotiation with the owner, Erik purchased the boat in 1999 realizing it had been weathered by time and needed some work. As he took delivery of the vessel, a beautiful, fully restored wooden boat in pristine condition caught his eye. When Erik discovered that Brightwork had done the job, he knew he didn´t need to look any further for someone to restore ´Nevermore.´
Erik had Brightwork evaluate the boat and see what it would take to completely restore it. They discussed Erik´s expectations and came up with a restoration plan. Eric felt comfortable with their suggestions because ´They are committed to doing this kind of extensive work. I trusted their recommendations.´ The end result, ´It was like I was in a time machine. The restoration allowed the boat to remain immortal,´ Erik said. ´The boat looks gorgeous, and it runs beautifully.´
